| Adu | |||
| . | |||
Adu is home to the coldest and most inhospitable regions in the archipelago. Situated in an icy, northern sea, Adu is not so much an island as it is a cluster of awesomely grand mountains. To give you a sense of scale, Mount Everest is six miles high. Six miles is pretty average if you are a mountain on Adu. The grandest peaks tower well over ten miles high. Yes, there are some foothills, and those hills are just a mile or two above sea level, but there aren't many, and they are right around the port city of Chamkha.Chamkha is situated within the Bay of Xhenga, and is one of the few spots on the island that is actually breachable. Chamkha is predominately a town populated by giants, since the dwarves tend to stay isolated on their western side of the island, though dwarves can be seen here and there as they seek passage off Adu for various, mysterious reasons. The giants control Chamkha and the eastern portion of the island, building their cities high up along the outside of the mountains, which are true marvels of engineering. If anyone can actually survive the journey to visit Laku or Zhangmu, they'll be awed by the immensity and majesty of the giant's cities. There aren't really very noticable seasonal changes on Adu. In the summertime, the Bay is unfrozen, and sea travel is brisk. Vegetation blooms on the lower altitudes for the very short (3-4 month) growing season. The rest of the time, it's just snow and ice and cold. During the winter months, the Bay is completely frozen, and all transport on and off the island comes to a standstill until the spring comes and breaks up the ice into dangerous pieces. Adu has a rich diversity of wildlife for being such a frozen island. Many animal and bird species have adapted to the altitudes and temperatures, and many more still have found habitation within warrens inside the mountains themselves. It is always a good idea to travel with trained warriors when trekking the Adu mountainsides, as there are many (as yet) uncategorized beasts wandering around... hungry and territorial. Adu's weather consists of ice storms, blizzards, avalanches (if that can be considered weather), and the most beautiful, clear crisp blue skies anyone has ever seen. The overall feeling of Adu is of harsh beauty, and unforgiving grandeur. |
