The Red Dragon of Mubleair Xan

.

Red dragon of Mubleair Xan: (fire based) There is much debate as to the facts on red dragons because so little is known about them. The only known red dragon living in modern times, which has been seen and studied to some degree, is the red dragon of Mubleair Xan. Folklore on the islands of Komadas and Sumil Kai also indicate giant, red, flying lizards living in their volcanoes, but as of current day, but these claims have yet to be authenticated. As to their origins, there is one presiding theory. This theory states that red dragons do not originate in the Isles at all, which explains why they are so rarely, if ever, seen. This theory supports the idea that the red dragon of Mubleair Xan flew in from some faraway land, and found comfortable residence on Xan. It also explains why no red dragon young have ever been encountered, and why red dragons appear different from most of their dracona kin, without an evolutionary explanation for their presence.

Red dragons are huge, larger than almost all the other dracona species. Only the sea serpents and sand snakes have been known to get as large. They are classically reptilian in physiology and appearance, four-legged, scaled, with long, snaky necks and sharp, meat-rending fangs. Red dragons have wings, with enormous wingspans, which enable their huge forms to take flight. Despite their size, it is presumed (though there will be no proof until the day the red dragon of Mubleair Xan is dead) that their bones are fragile and thin, or even hollow, which allows them to soar as high in the air as they do. Rarely is the red dragon ever seen in physical combat, preferring to roast its prey or enemies from a safe distance away with a gout of fire. This fire breathing ability can only be supported by the dragon eating brimstone or flammable oils, and being able to connect with flame. This is, perhaps, why red dragons reputedly prefer such homes as volcanoes, though the red dragon of Mubleair Xan has found a nice place for itself on the edge of the Fiery Gullet. Red dragons appear to be fully immune to any and all effects of fire or heat.
